We would like to draw your attention to the “2nd PAZ Polarimetric Radio Occultations User Workshop”, which will take place at the Keck Institute for Space Studies, located on the Caltech campus in Pasadena, CA, between 28-29 November 2023.

Thank you to those of you who have already indicated your interest in participating, as well as your interest in a short (~20-minute) presentation.

We anticipate attendees across applications and weather agencies.  The workshop will be in a hybrid format, with blocks on each of the two days scheduled to provide viewing opportunities for many remote participants.   See the attached PDF for more details and logistics.

Please register (free of charge) at  https://forms.gle/H8RuAYNhYvTinSPD6

Travel support for early career and students is available.  For more information on this opportunity, contact the meeting organizers.

This workshop follows on the first workshop held in 2020.   The objectives of this 2nd workshop are:

  1. To provide potential users with an understanding of the polarimetric RO concept, available data, and the geophysical content
  2. To provide data providers with a forum to better understand the requirements of scientific and modeling users
  3. Link the two communities to develop new products and further the use of PRO in science and applications.

Day 1:  Overview from space agencies, satellite operators, and operational weather centers; status of current PRO observations, current efforts in microphysical evaluation and assimilation,

Day 2:  Measurement-focused presentations on sensitivity of PRO to rain, mixed phase and ice; science-focused presentations on relationships between PRO observations and model observations.

Note that the workshop dates are conveniently chosen to be adjacent to, and at the same location as, the IEEE GRSS MicrowAve MonItoring of WATer with Applications (MAMI WATA) Workshop (https://shorturl.at/vBHJP) taking place at Caltech Nov 30-Dec 1.

We look forward to your participation.
